Girls education & women empowerment

Improving access to quality education for girls is essential for a prospering society in Ethiopia. Girls are often kept from going to school as they are often needed at home for chores, to generate additional income as well as to me married off for their dowry. Via community sensitization, creation of a friendly school environment for girls, advocacy campaigns targeting customary and religious institutions and government bodies, capacity building for school communities and local level education sector staff, as well as girls advocacy alliance to prevent gender-based violence, are some of the tools we employ to further girls education and girls voices in Ethiopia.

All of our work mainstreams women empowerment. A prosperous society cannot function without empowered women, women who have access to education, whose voices are heard and who are a respected part of society.

Capacity building for CSOs

Supporting the growth of a strong civil society in Ethiopia has always been at the core of RCSC's mandate since its inception. We want to see a thriving landscape of civil society organization (CSOs) who work for our common goal of building a prosperous, peaceful and inclusive society in Ethiopia. We therefore provide training and mentoring support in various fields, be it organisational, development, fundraising or thematic inputs.

Peacebuilding and conflict prevention

Ethiopia is a multi-ethnic society with over 80 languages and a multitude of traditions, religious believes and backgrounds. However, people often do not live in peace due to the fight for resources, traditions and cycles of revenge. It is our aim to build on the traditional Ethiopian resolution mechanisms to bring communities together and develop a joint resilience to violent conflict. Resilience that allows the communities to appreciate their diversity, see the communalities and employ the traditional and modern mechanisms of conflict transformation. To harvest the positive energy for change that conflict can bring and have mechanisms in place that allow for peaceful conflict transformation processes.

We are active in six regions in Ethiopia:

  • Addis Abeba
  • Oromia
  • Sidama
  • South Ethiopia
  • Central Ethiopia
  • Southwest Ethiopia
